The Top 15 Best Locations

Published by Misti Barbee

The top 15 best locations for portraits in Abilene. Although I do not have a studio of my own (yet,) it is still possible to have your beautiful unique portraits or family photos taken indoors, and that is how I'll begin this list!

15. The Grace Museum, downtown- for an additional $25 added to your total fee, we can shoot in the lobby, ball room, on the stairwell, or roof. We cannot use the galleries, as there is no flash photography allowed. We cannot use this facility during an event, so appointments will need to be made in advance with the $25 up front to reserve the space.

14. The Paramount Theatre, downtown- we may use this location free of charge during the hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The lobby, mezanine (balcony) and the auditorium may all be used, but the stage is off limits. Some very beautiful photos can be taken here!

13. Your HOME! - as long as you have white walls, or a white sheet, and a solid color sheet for a background, I can capture some unforgettable images!

12. Down town Abilene- Most of the photos you see hanging on your friends walls were done here or in a studio! haha, well it's because there are so many great ops on the sidewalks of our beautiful downtown area and I can make the most of them!

11. Nelson Park, near the Zoo- Nelson park has an amazing little bridge near the "pond" that makes a great prop for bridals, family photos, maternity, etc...

10. Dyess Memorial Park, Arnold Blvd- great bridge and sitting area, but not enough substance for an entire shoot.

9. Lake Abilene- Highway 277

8. Abilene St Park

7. Caps Cemetery, intersection of highway 277 and CR 313- Strange sounding I know, but It's really a wonderful, beautiful place for a more rustic backdrop.

6. Abandoned Church, 1447 Hickory- beautiful vine covered building, stained glass windows

5. ACU- has the rock structures, the pond, and beautiful architecture.

4. Johnson Park, Fort Phantom near the dam- Has just been BEAUTIFULLY restored/remade/remodeled

3. Hardin Simmons University- Has a gorgeous gazebo, and little white bridge.

2. The Heavenly Rest- Episcopal Church- Amazing Grounds for Bridals, Huge Red Doors, enormous towers, great architecture.

AND THE NUMBER ONE SPOT- Fort Imagination, near the zoo- Is perfect for family shoots, and gives the little ones a break from the monotony and "punishment" of studio posed shoots.

I am not limited to these locations, if you have a place in mind, we'll use it! I'd love to hear about your secret spots for photos, and if you divulge a great one I might even be so inclined to give you a discount on your session!
